Stages of Giving Birth.
Every woman that wishes to experience the taste of motherhood has to undergo the severity of labour pain. While the experience is different for every woman, and in fact, for every pregnancy, the main stages remain same for all. With every passing stage, the severity in the pain increases along with the increase in the contractions. An upset stomach, backache, cramping or tightening, similar to period pain along with a feeling of pressure, as the baby’s head moves into the pelvis results into a urge to go to the toilet, however, the gynecologist will assist you to understand the process. Often women experience no pain even till the water breaks. During pregnancy, the cervix is tightly closed with the help of a plug of mucus. The earliest stage of labour is indicated with the mucus coming away. Some women can start experiencing pain and contractions even before the mucus comes away. Your obstetrician should be contacted with any of these first signs. The entire labour and birth giving process can be understood as a collection of three stages. The first stage is when your contractions increase, and your cervix begins to open up. This is called as dilation of cervix. This is usually the longest stage with maximum labour pain. It can vary from few days to few hours, again varying in every pregnancy. The second stage of labour is when the cervix is fully open and the baby moves through the vagina. The contractions become too strong and frequent seeming to be staying for longer periods. With the baby coming out completely, the birthing process enters into the third stage of womb contraction which ultimately leads the placenta to come out through the vagina. Even after the placenta is removed, the womb continues to contract and this contraction again leads to mild to severe pain. This pain may last up to one day, while the gradual contraction continues for up to one month. The fruit bore out of this severe labour pain and birthing process, the child, helps the mother forget all her pains and sufferings.
